Any news from Texas? The remnants of Ike went past us and left us 7 inches of rain in one hour. A lot of flash flooding and a flooded basement, but nothing like Texas. How are you guys doing?

choosing life
People have faith in a lot of things. They hope science, modern medicine, political leaders, money, etc. will provide what they need/desire.
Putting your faith/hope in a creator is not much different. I know you can't see him/her, but there are a lot more things that you can't see/experience in this lifetime then there are things you do actually experience. Our tiny lives are so limited by our small field of perceptions.
I think everyone would like to see fairness in this life (most everyone). Yet, we don't see it. If this is all there is to the story, what a disappointment!
That's why.

How sad. Definately a great loss. They gave a lot of joy to many through their music.

The WTS lawyers ended the Book Study Arrangement
by lawrence into hell with the god-given book study arrangement, screw the spiritual table of food, and end the "brotherly fellowship".
the wts lawyers dictated, "end the home book studies, minimize our liability.
" and so the arrangement ended with an imprimatur by the wts lawyers, a boe letter, and a km article.

Seems to have more to do with the coming change of the Co arrangement. It will make it easier for the someone close by to serve a congo if all meetings are from Thursday through Sunday.
They sure are making a lot of changes in a short time period. Wonder what's up? Oh, yeah, the end is sooo near!

Will the tower play there power trip on me?
by jacethespace insince i have left the watchtower i have met a really great girl [ or as the tower might put it-worldly].
the thing is i think i might be in a bit of a predicament because when i left the tower i decided on the option that i would just walk away and not send a letter of dissociation.and the local elder and his wife lives right next door to me.because of this i have still saw them and other of my tower associates and been able to speak to them and they have spoke to me.. but now i have a feeling that once i start to bring my girlfriend back to my place that my neighbour/elder will take more of an intrest in whats going on and it might lead them to dissfellowshipping me.although as far as im concerned my life is none of there buisness anymore.but im just wondering how long it will take for them to visit me and announce that they are going to df me.. anyone had any similar experiences or anything?.

If it is noticed by the elder, I think you will receive a call or visit. I know of a lady recently who was dfd for spending the night with a guy at his apartment. They camped out in a pick up truck so they could have two witnesses see her coming in the night and not leaving until morning.
That's all they needed. Didn't need proof of sexual activity. If you do this next to an elder, prepare to be dfd. If you don't want to be dfd, go to her place.

WHERE WERE YOU 7 YEARS AGO?
by Mary inguess i'll be the first one to do an (inevitable) thread about 9-11. hard to believe it's been 7 years already.
i was at work when one of my co-workers came up and told me that a plane had hit the world trade center.
i thought it was awful, but i figured it was a small single engine plane that maybe lost its way in the fog.

I was home and watching the news when it all happened. It was surreal and terribly upsetting. I was glued to the news for days. I was still a jw at the time and, of course, thought it might be the beginning of the end. I remember talking to people in the d2d work and how much everyone was afraid and more apt to discuss religious beliefs. They actually encouraged us to play on these fears to start indoctrination sessions.
I remember going to work and discussing the news with my boss. I talked about the Bible and the end and my boss said she was ready. (Of course, she wasn't , I thought, because she wasn't a bonafide jw.) I thought about this conversation this year on 9/11 and how completely differently I think about the whole situation now.
It is still a crazy and scary world at times, but I no longer delude myself that I am in any way more special or chosen than anyone else. We are all just trying to muddle through this life as best we can.

Baby High Heel Crib Shoes....
by yknot ini was emailed this story by my expectant cousin.....(who really want the entire collection for her little girl due in dec.).

when you think babies, you think nappies, bibs and plastic bottles.

I saw them on TV. I think they look ridiculous and yes, there were little ones trying to walk in them. I think babies are cute enough as babies without nonsense like this.
I bet there's a lot of money in the market for them. I have a niece that always dresses her little girls in bizarre outfits. I don't mind dress-up on occassion, but not constantly.

Going to Church
by excito-are ini went to church in my local town while the witnesses attended the perth assembly.
it was a good sermon and i actually felt very upbuilt and refreshed after listening to it.
i really thought i would of felt guilt or some negative feeling for doing this, but quite the opposite.

Glad you felt like branching out. It is a major difficulty for many ex-jws to attend another church. I wasn't raised a jw and know that some church sermons are quite uplifting. They don't always dwell on doom and gloom.
The kingdom hall always made me feel nervous and pessimistic about the future. Good idea to go while they were out of sight.

Andersons' quoted in ALABAMA newspaper on sexual abuse
by Dogpatch insupport social workers and foster families through the madison county office of the alabama department of human services.
neglect: 50 percent of abuse cases.
sexual abuse: 15 percent of abuse cases.

Good article. I wish the witnesses could be forced into doing background checks on anyone in a position in the congregation. The idea that two adults have to be present when dealing with children is a good idea too.
I just don't see the witnesses working along with the police to prevent child abuse. They are still much more concerned with their image.

"..not a single worldly person afflicted." I am sure this was your honest observation, but you have to realize that a lot of those you knew were probably witnesses. I realize that a lot of jws do suffer from illness and the constant drain of always needing to do more is probably responsible.
I used to teach a support group for people with these diseases and they were all "worldly" persons. So, I could say that no jws had the disease, but that wouldn't be true. I guess the terrible suffering I saw these people go through kinda makes me a little sensitive when others don't take it seriously.
Sincerely, cl
